Before we talk about UEStudio, we must bring up another product from IDM Computer Solutions, mainly UltraEdit. To put it simply, UltraEdit is a powerful tool for editing text, hex, XML, HTML, PHP, Java, Javascript, and Perl – it’s simply a powerful text editor that’s used by thousands of people around the world. UEStudio, by adding some new features to the mix, takes the functionality UltraEdit has to offer to the next level. It is a powerful text editor with even more features to offer than UltraEdit.

You will have no problems installing UEStudio on a PC powered by Windows 7, Vista, or XP. It is a standard installation process: download an executable, run it, click through the setup wizard. It must be mentioned though that the setup wizard will ask to install the AVG Security Toolbar and set AVG Secure Search as your homepage and default search provider, and will invite you to try UltraCompare (a professional compare/merge/sync tool also offered by IDB Computer Solutions).

Before you get to UEStudio’s interface, you will be presented with a File Associations pane. UEStudio can be associated with the following file types: TXT, INI, LOG, DAT, BIN, HEX, C, CPP, H, HPP, MAK, PRJ, HTML, HTM, JAVA, JS, XML, CSS, RB, PHP, UENC, and PRW.

How the interface looks depends on the environment you select. UEStudio provides support for the following environments: Notepad Replacement (a basic toolset for editing text files), Power User (powerful editing functionality and advanced editing tools to the savvy computer users), Programmer (sophisticated editor complete with advanced tools a programmer may need), Software Developer (an IDE mode that includes advanced development tools), System Administrator (advanced editing and automation mode that includes support for converting files, scripts and macros, FTP transfers, and more), Technical Writer (meant to be used for editing multiple text files at once), and Web Developer (provides support for PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and other languages).

The functionality UEStudio has to offer appeals to everyone, from the novice user who simply needs to edit a piece of text, to the advanced user who needs more advanced editing tools, up to the expert user, programmer, and developer who needs a specialized set of tools to meet his needs. To put it bluntly, UEStudio is a powerful tool that has a lot of exceptional editing functionality to offer.

Please note that UEStudio is not free, it’s only free to try. You are provided with a 30-day period to evaluate the functionality this application has to offer. To keep using UEStudio once the trial expires, you will have to get a license.

UEStudio’s powerful editing functionality means it can do anything, from something as simple as editing text up to helping a developer come up with a website or a programmer come up with an application.

Pros

It will take little time and effort to get UEStudio up and running on a Windows PC. You can associate UEStudio with a lot of file types. You are presented with a Quick Start Guide that can prove to be quite handy. Support for numerous environments is provided. UEStudio has a lot of powerful editing functionality to offer.

Cons

Free to use for 30 days; nag screen.
